Getting Married in St. Johns, Portland — A Local’s Guide

St. Johns is one of Portland’s best-kept secrets for weddings — and as someone who lives and works here, I want to help you discover why.

It’s gritty and charming, unpretentious and beautiful, with Cathedral Park and the St. Johns Bridge as its crown jewels. The kind of place that attracts couples who want something real. If that sounds like you, keep reading.

Why St. Johns?

The neighborhood has a small-town feel that’s genuinely rare in a city this size. Independent coffee shops, local restaurants, a tight-knit creative community. St. Johns has its own identity — and couples who choose it tend to feel that immediately.

Ceremony & Photo Locations

Ceremony & Photo Location

Cathedral Park

Few places stop you in your tracks the way Cathedral Park does. The Gothic arches of the St. Johns Bridge, the Willamette River, the deep green of the surrounding trees — it’s one of those backdrops that elevates everything around it. Your photographer will thank you.

A note on access: The Cathedral Park Staircase and Deck are currently unavailable for permit reservations due to St. Johns Bridge repair work. However, the Cathedral Park Amphitheater is available for reservations. If you’re having a simple ceremony with no more than the couple, officiant, and two witnesses, you may use the Staircase and Deck on a first-come, first-served basis as bridge repair work allows. For permit reservations, visit portland.gov/parks/wedding.

Photo Location

St. Johns Bridge

The St. Johns Bridge is one of those landmarks that earns its reputation every single time. A Gothic suspension bridge painted seafoam green, flanked by forest on both sides and framing the Willamette River below — it’s been one of Portland’s most photographed spots for nearly a century, and it’s easy to see why. If you want photos that are truly unlike anything else, make time for the bridge.

St. Johns Wedding Vendors We Love

St. Johns has always attracted people who do things with intention — and the wedding vendor community here is no exception. The vendors below are rooted right here in the neighborhood. Local businesses doing exceptional work.

Elopements & Micro Weddings

Weddinglandia

Portland’s only Vegas-style wedding chapel — and one of my favorite businesses in this city. Weddinglandia makes elopements and micro weddings feel like exactly what they should be: joyful, intentional, and completely stress-free. If you’ve already eloped at Weddinglandia and are ready to throw the reception party, that’s where I come in.

Higher Love Offer for Weddinglandia Couples: Book Reception Coordination for $1,800 and receive 2 bonus planning hours free — a $130 value. Just mention Weddinglandia when you reach out.

Venue

The St. Johns Inn

A historic 1910 estate perched on a bluff overlooking the Willamette River, with stunning views of downtown Portland, Mt. Hood, Forest Park, and the bridges. It sits on 1.25 acres and has a peaceful, rural feeling that’s rare this close to the city.

The property is a true blank canvas — complete creative freedom, and that also means you’ll need to bring in everything: catering, tables, chairs, tents, bar service, restrooms, and all the infrastructure that makes a wedding work. This venue requires an experienced coordinator. I’m your neighbor, I know this space well, and I’ve coordinated weddings here. If you’re considering the St. Johns Inn, let’s talk.

Florist

Overlook Floral Co.

Locally rooted floral design with a Pacific Northwest sensibility. Overlook Floral Co. creates arrangements that feel organic and intentional — the kind that look like they grew that way. A perfect fit for St. Johns weddings that lean natural, earthy, and PNW.

After Party

The Fixin’ To

North Portland’s only all-ages barcade — and one of the most fun after-party spots in the city. The Fixin’ To is a dive bar and retro arcade packed with pinball machines, shoot-em-ups, and modern multiplayer games. They have a private room available to rent for parties, which makes it a fantastic option for wedding after-parties. Your guests can grab a drink, play some games, and keep the night going in a space that’s completely, unapologetically Portland. Just give them plenty of lead time when you reach out — the room books up.

Higher Love Favorites — Wherever Your Wedding Is

These vendors aren’t all based in St. Johns — but they’re who I reach for regardless of where the wedding is. I’ve worked alongside all of them and recommend them without hesitation.

Photography

Rebecca Rizzo Photographics

A Portland-based wedding photographer who specializes in emotional storytelling and adventure sessions. Rebecca’s work is warm, genuine, and beautifully composed — she captures the moments that actually matter, not just the posed ones. She’s also just a wonderful human to have in the room on your wedding day. Many of the photos representing Higher Love Event Co. were taken by her.

Officiant

Officiant Jimmie

Jimmie Berguin is one of the best officiants in the Pacific Northwest — a highly rated, Black-owned wedding and adventure elopement officiant based in Eugene who travels throughout the PNW to craft ceremonies that are deeply personal, genuinely fun, and completely your own. He takes the time to actually learn your love story — phone calls, questionnaires, the whole thing — so that by the time he’s standing at the altar with you, he knows you. It shows.

He handles everything from custom writing and rehearsals to filing your marriage paperwork. And yes — he ends ceremonies with a “Seal it with a Shot.” It’s exactly as fun as it sounds.

DJ & Music

Stumptown DJs

Some of the best DJs in Portland — professional, experienced, and genuinely fun to work with. They read a room well and know how to keep energy moving without being overbearing. If you want a reception that feels alive without feeling like a nightclub, these are your people.

DJ & Live Music

JR Music Collective

Both DJ services and live musical performances — which makes JR Music Collective a little special. If you’ve ever dreamed of live music at your wedding but weren’t sure how to make it work, they’re worth a conversation. Talented, versatile, and a pleasure to coordinate with.

Catering

Art de Cuisine

A boutique, woman-owned catering company focused on seasonal, farm-to-table fare with gluten-free and vegan options. Art de Cuisine brings genuine care and craft to every event. If food matters to you — and it should — these are the people to call.

Catering

Devil’s Food Catering

Handcrafted food, gracious service, and experienced event planning since 2003. Devil’s Food has been a trusted name in the Portland wedding world for more than two decades — the kind of longevity that only comes from doing it well, consistently.

Catering

White Pepper

Pacific Northwest cuisine made with farm-fresh produce, with full service, limited service, and drop-off options. White Pepper is a great fit for a range of wedding styles and budgets — clean, seasonal, and delicious.

Wedding Cakes

Dream Cakes

Award-winning custom wedding cakes made from scratch with local ingredients. Dream Cakes specializes in buttercream cakes that are as beautiful as they are delicious — the kind guests actually talk about. If you want a showstopper made by someone who truly cares about their craft, this is it.

Mobile Bar

The Swig Rig

A vintage mobile bar service — and one of the best additions you can make to a non-traditional wedding. The Swig Rig offers bespoke beverage service plus vintage trailer rental for couples who want a bar setup that’s as beautiful as it is functional. If your venue doesn’t have a built-in bar, this is the answer.

Rentals

Arden Event Collective

The best of the best when it comes to event rentals in Portland. Arden never disappoints — beautiful inventory, a professional team, and the expertise to make any space feel intentional and polished. This is especially who you want on your team when you’re building a non-traditional wedding from scratch.

Specialty Rentals

Lily & Cane

High-quality furniture rentals — tables, chairs, benches, bars, sofas, lounges, and more — with a curated aesthetic that elevates any space. If you want your wedding to feel designed rather than just set up, Lily & Cane is who you call.

Specialty Rentals

Great Jones NW

Over 14 years of helping clients bring their vision to life with thoughtfully curated event and wedding rentals across Portland and Seattle. A track record that speaks for itself — professional, reliable, and beautifully stocked.

Lighting

Greenlight Creative

Lighting is one of the most underrated elements of a wedding — and one of the most transformative. Greenlight Creative is Portland’s go-to for event lighting design, and the difference they make in a space is stunning. If your venue or budget allows for it, this is one worth prioritizing.
